• NLD leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to 5 more years of prison for corruption. She is accused of accepting a 600,000 USD bribe from the Yangon Chief Minister. She was already sentenced to 8 years of prison (later reduced to 6) on other charges, including the illegal possession of walkie talkies.
• The mysterious arrest of prominent tycoon Chit Khine, seem to be related to his alleged close ties with the NLD and the National Unity Government. Chit Khine was arrested on Friday after returning from abroad, and the military regime is accusing him of corruption
• Saifuddin Abdullah said he spoke with Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung on a virtual call, raising hopes that his counterparts may heed mounting calls for ASEAN to ditch its Five-Point Consensus and open dialogue with resistance groups. (Source: DVB)
• Chen Hai, China’s ambassador to Myanmar, and Vinya Kumar, India’s ambassador to Myanmar, held separate meetings with Union Election Commission (UEC) head U Thein Soe on April 19 and 25 respectively to discuss the military regime’s planned new election, according to junta-controlled media.
