While the world is following what is happening in Ukraine, the
Burmese military regime seem to be increasing its violence against Myanmar citizens. In the past few days there have been frequent reports of civilians been killed or even burned to death, and of houses been torched to the ground.
Meanwhile flights from Belarus, Iran and Russia keep landing in Naypyidaw. The military junta is strengthening its ties with other authoritarian regimes. Both Belarus and Iran supported Russia’s invasion in Ukraine at yesterday’s emergency UNGA (Un General Assembly) by voting against the resolution, or by abstaining. The military regime almost certainly would have voted against, but the current Myanmar envoy to the UN is Kyaw Moe Tun who was appointed by the NLD prior the military coup, joined other democracies in denouncing Vladimir Putin’s actions, and even co-sponsored the resolution.

POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
• Myanmar citizens are experiencing frequent and prolonged blackouts during the day. In some cases blackouts can last several hours, up to over 10 hours in a single day.
• Despite the Myanmar generals openly support Putin’s war against Ukraine, Myanmar supported and co-sponsored the UN resolution against Russia at the General Assembly. Myanmar’s ambassador to the United Nations is currently Kyaw Moe Tun, who represents the NLD civilian government
• According to Data for Myanmar, the military regime burned over 6,000 houses since last year’s military coup
• A Belarus military delegation ended its visit in Naypyidaw
• An Iranian flight carrying military equipment and missiles landed in Myanmar (Source: The Irrawaddy). A Russian cargo is reportedly scheduled to land in Myanmar in the next days. Russia is one of the largest arms supplier for the Burmese military
• According to Reuters, Telenor will transfer 100 million USD of its earnings to Shwe Byain Phyu and M1, who purchased the Norwegian telecom for 105 million USD. Executives of Telenor have been blocked from leaving Myanmar until the transaction will be completed.
• DVB reports that the military regime announced that it has appointed nearly 700 new nurses to replace those who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement. It is not clear how they were recruited and trained
CHIN STATE
• Falam: Resistance fighters attacked a military convoy headed to Hakha, killing around 40 regime soldiers.
• Salai Za Hnin and Salai Van Bawi Bik of the Chin National Army (CNA) were killed by regime soldiers
SAGAING
• Katha: 4 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters
• Pale: airstrikes by the military regime in Utpo village
• Ye U: 4 Resistance fighters were burned alive by regime soldiers on March 1st during a raid in Otpo village
KACHIN STATE
• Putao: regime soldiers burned houses in Sumpian village
KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• Demoso: the military regime fired heavy artillery near Silidon village
KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
• The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) launched an attack on a military convoy, destroying around 20 vehicles carrying ammunition and rations
MANDALAY
• A child was beaten by regime soldiers for taking pictures of authorities shutting off the electricity to houses of families who failed to pay the bills.
MAGWAY
• Gangaw: local residents report that the military burned to death over 20 civilians from 6 villages and destroyed over 200 houses in the past week
• Pauk: regime soldiers fired heavy artillery and burned several houses in Letpanhla village, destroying several houses
ARAKAN (RAKHINE) STATE
• More than 540 tonnes of illegal timber were seized in Arakan State in February, according to figures from the state’s Forest Department. (Source: Development Media Group)
YANGON
• Dagon Myothit: Ko Raza head of the Nurture AIDS Center, and some patients have been arrested by regime soldiers. The shelter was set up by National League for Democracy MP Phyu Phyu Thin
COVID DAILY (as reported by the military-controlled Ministry of Health. Real figures are believed to be higher than officially reported)
