Today is the 61st anniversary of the Kachin Revolution Day. During his speech, the Kachin Independence Organization’s Chairman, General Nban La, called for all ethnic armed organizations to join the fight against the Burmese military regime and expressed his support for the National Unity Government (NUG). Ethnic Armed Organizations have been fighting against the Tatmadaw for decades (The Karen National Union recently celebrated the 73rd anniversary of its Revolution Day), but there has never been such unity between different EAOs and the Bamar majority. Alld democratic forces in Myanmar, EAOs, Civil Society organizations and pro-democracy activists, understand that there can’t be any democracy, any federalism or any self-determination with the Burmese military in power.
So it is not surprising to read today’s joint statement by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) together with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA, also known as the Kokang Army), and the Arakan Army (AA), which expresses support to the KIA/KIO on its Revolution Day. The 4 armed groups form the Northern Alliance, a military coalition that fights against the Burmese military.
The Arakan Army, one of the most powerful armed groups, has been quiet during the past year, taking advantage of an informal ceasefire with the Tatmadaw to strengthen its own administration in Arakan State.
Clashes in Kachin State have been very intense lately. The KIA claims to have killed around 100 regime troops during the past 3 days. The military regime launched several airstrikes.
POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
• The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, the Myanmar’s democratic parliament, convened for the 3rd time since the 2021 military coup. Its official statement reiterates its opposition to the military regime.
• Two leaders of a village defence force in Sagaing Region’s Kanbalu Township were killed by members of the pro-military Pyu Saw Htee group on Wednesday, according to local sources. The two victims—Myint Maw, 43, and Aung Naing Htwe, 42—had been approached by a Pyu Saw Htee member who lured them with an offer to sell weapons, the sources said. (Source: Myanmar Now)
• More than 250 Myanmar citizens arrested by Thai authorities for illegally crossing the border. (Source: Mizzima)
• The organization Myanmar Witness, using drone imagery, identified over 185 civilian buildings destroyed by the military regime in Bin, Minkin in Sagaing region.
• The annual Cobra Gold military exercise will be held without Myanmar Army’s participation officially due to Covid reasons. Myanmar is traditionally invited to the event, the largest military drill in Southeast Asia. 20 countries will participate in this year’s edition
• Of the estimated 2.4 million people in Arakan State, 1.5 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the Myanmar Humanitarian Response Plan 2022 published by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) late last month. (Source: BNI)
CHIN STATE
• Hakha: regime soldiers shot and injured a man on a motorbike for not stopping at a checkpoint.
SAGAING
• Shwebo: a pro-military local administrator and his son have been killed in Bo Tae Kone village.
• Kani: Resistance fighters launched a drone attack on a military post. Resistance fighters also attacked the Win Ma Nar Police Station, reportedly killing 25 regime troops, while losing 3 comrades.
• Myinmu: the bodies of 11 people have been discovered after an airstrike led by the military regime on a graduation ceremony for Resistance fighters. Eight bodies have been burned
• KoTaungBo village, Kantbalu: 13 Resistance fighters have been reportedly killed by regime soldiers
KACHIN STATE
• Hpakant: clashes continue between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Burmese Army, that launched several airstrikes killing a civilian in Kapmaw. During the past 3 days in the battle of Manaw, almost 100 regime troops have been killed.
KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• The Karenni Army’s 72 batch military graduation ceremony was successfully organized today in the areas controlled by Karenni National Progressive Party (Source: Chindwin News Agency)
KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
• Taduikhu village, Daelu Township, Mutraw (Hpapun): two civilians have been killed and 6, including children, have been injured by an airstrike led by the military regime.
• Dooplaya: heavy rains near the Thai border, flooded some internal displacement camps.
MANDALAY
• Kyaukse: regime soldiers arrested and later killed Phyo Thiha Zin a volunteer, leader of the charity We love Kyaukse, together with a young NLD supporter. Their bodies were dumped on the road
MAGWAY
• Laung Shay: a military base was attacked by Resistance fighters. One regime soldier killed
ARAKAN (RAKHINE) STATE
• Maungdaw: members of the regime’s Light Infantry Batallion 352 attacked an AA military base prompting a clash between the • Arakan Army (AA) and the Burmese Army in Mee Tat Village. One AA soldier has been reportedly killed.
• Mingala Nyunt village, Maungdaw: a fight has been reported by residents, although it is not clear which armed groups are involved. The Rohingya Salvation Organization (RSO) claims to have attacked the Burmese Army, killing 8 soldiers, but there are no independent verifications.
