Pro-democracy activists promoting the upcoming Silent Strike (Feb 1st)

The military regime is warning business owners not to join the upcoming Silent Strike on February 1st. Those who will close their shops, risk up to 20 years of prison and the seizure of their properties. The absurdity of such threats show all the insecurity of the generals.

The power of the people should not be underestimated.

POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
•  In Myitkyina, Kachin State, the military used signboards to threat business owners not to join the February 1st’s Silent Strike. During previous Silent Strike, shop owners closed their activities to show their opposition to the military coup. The military is threatening to persecute those who will close their shops under various laws that could lead up to 20 years of prison. The military regime also sent letters to shop owners around the country with similar threats, including the confiscation of properties.
•  The Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) issued a warning to stop selling military-owned products in Putao
•  The Karen National Union Brigade 5 issued a warning to all civil workers to leave Hpapun by February 10th. Those who will fail to follow this order will be punished. The KNU’s goal is to weaken the military regime’s administration.
•  The military ministry of foreign affairs claims to have implemented the 5 points consensus, and that the military regime used maximum restraint to protect its people.
•  1.6 million jobs lost in 2021 due to the military coup and the Covid pandemic, ILO says.
•  The Chinese oil tanker Yu Dong, believed to be delivering aviation fel to the Burmese military regime, arrived at the Thilawa port in Yangon. Aviation fuel may be used by the army for its airstrikes on civilians.

SAGAING
•  Minkin: residents are fleeing the village as the Burmese military launched a raid
•  Pale: 5 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters
•  Tamu: clashes between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers

KACHIN STATE
•  The Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) issued a warning to stop selling military-owned products in Putao

SHAN STATE
•  Htee Laut Thae: regime troops and BGF attacked the village and killed for civilians, including a 3-months-old baby and his mother. A young woman and a man were the other victims.

KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
•  Lay Kay Kaw, Myawaddy: fighting continues between the Karen National Liberation Army and regime soldiers. More than 21,000 people have been displaced due to the conflict

MAGWAY
•  Gangaw: Khin Maung Htwe, a deputy chief of the local police who was planning to defect and join the pro-democracy side, was reportedly killed by another police officer. His family was not allowed to attend the funeral and was told that he died in a landmine blast.
•  Myaing: 2 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters.
•  Myokhinta, Myaing: regime soldiers shelled the village, destroying 3 houses

TANINTHARYI
•  Dawei and Yebyu: nearly 30 soldiers have been killed by Resistance fighters

COVID DAILY (as reported by the military-controlled Ministry of Health. Real figures are believed to be higher than officially reported)
•  174 new cases and 0 new deaths
