•  Myanmar Now interviewed Mahn Win Khaing Than, PM of the National Unity Government (NUG, the parallel government that opposes the military regime). According to the PM, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the NLD government believed the Tatmadaw’s propaganda regarding the Arakan State crisis in 2017. The Burmese military claimed it was launching an operation against terrorists, and that reports of the ongoing genocide were fake news. He also expects the Revolution to succeed this year
•  A new Silent Strike protest is scheduled on February 1st, the anniversary of the 2021 military coup.
•  Journalist Chhengpor Aun reports that in a phone call with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Cambodian PM Hun Sen, acknowledged that Myanmar is in a situation of “having two governments”. Although he did not explicitly refer to the National Unity Government (NUG), this is a surprising development, given the recent visit in Myanmar by Hun Sen
•  Funerals for famous painter Tin Hla Win Htin were held today in Yangon. He passed away at age 82
•  According to Myanmar Now, the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) is cooperating with the military regime, providing the logistics for the aviation fuel that the Burmese military is using for its airstrikes in Sagaing, Chin State and Karenni State. The situation in Shan State is very complex, with several armed groups fighting between each other or against the military regime, including the RCSS, the Shan State Progressive Army (SSPP/SSA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), the Kokang Army (MNDAA) and the People’s Defence Forces (PDF). Moreover, rumors of tensions between the RCSS and the United Wa State Army (UWSA) are circulating online. Thousands of civilians have been displaced by conflict.

KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
•  Demoso: intense clashes between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers. According to Resistance groups, the military regime deployed two fighter jets. A Resistance fighters was reportedly killed.
