On Military-controlled Myawaddy TV, the regime has officially threatened to bomb the whole city of Loikaw in Karenni State. There are rumors that civilians have been told to leave within 3 days. Residents are trying to flee, but regime soldiers have been shooting at buses and cars full of civilians, and blocked cars before they could reach Taungyi in Shan State. There have been reports of soldiers forcing people to pay “fees” along the way.
The main concern now is that the regime could launch a “clearance operation”, as it did in other occasions (in Arakan State against the Rohingya, or in Thantlang in Chin State).
It’s not the first time that the military regime threatens Myanmar citizens on State media. Similar threats were made in February and March, when the generals warned protesters were at risk of being shot in the head.
Currently thousands of civilians have been displaced by conflict all over Myanmar, and the apathy of the international community is frankly astonishing.
In Chin State 10 civilians, including two teenagers, have been abducted, used as human shields and then slain. Another massacre committed by the military regime.
Let’s not forget that all of this is happening just hours after the Cambodian PM and ASEAN chairman Hun Sen visited Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw. Both parties claim that the meeting was a success, even though the results are there for everyone to see.
On a more encouraging note, images of a pro-democracy rally in Pale and Yinmarpin (Sagaing), went viral on Myanmar social media today. When I first saw the huge crowd, I thought the pictures were taken back in February. The Resistance has made incredible progress in Sagaing. Hundreds if not thousands felt safe enough and showed up this evening (under the protection of Resistance fighters), to manifest their opposition to the military coup and to listen to speeches by democratic leaders, including Than Kyaw Oo.
POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
• The Ministry of Health has appointed Dr. Su Su Due, the sister of Lt. General Aung Lin Dwe, the secretary general of the Military Council as the new director general of the Department of Traditional Medicine.
CHIN STATE
• Matupi: several civilians (at least 10, according to Chindwin News Agency) have been slained by regime soldiers, after been abducted and used as human shields. The victims include a Pa La Nang, a 13 year-old boy and a 16 year-old girl
• Nabual, Hakha: a woman has been severely injured by artillery fired by regime soldiers.
SAGAING
• Yinmarpin: regime soldiers raided a village, burning civilian houses
KACHIN STATE
• Putao: clashes between Resistance fighters and regime troops
KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• Loikaw: the regime keeps bombing the city, prompting civilians to flee. On the military channel Myawaddy TV, the regime threaten to bomb the whole city. Thousands of civilians are trying to escape to Shan State, but have been reportedly blocked by regime soldiers before reaching Taungyi. It has been reported that regime soldiers shot at buses full of civilians in Loikaw.
• Loikaw: the funerals of a Resistance fighter who fell yesterday were held in Loikaw.
• Demoso: several regime soldiers of the Light Infantry Division 66 have been killed during clashes against Resistance groups
KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
• Hpa-An: according to the Karen National Union, a 88 year-old grandmother and a 7 year-old grandson have been injured by heavy artillery shot by regime troops
• Kamai Gone, Kawkareik: a 20 year-old worker was killed by artillery shells fired by regime soldiers
MANDALAY
• At least 5 regime soldiers have been killed during an attack on a train
• Regime soldiers opened fire randomly after a bomb exploded near the junction between Myawaddy Mingyi Street and 68th Street.
THANINTHARYI
• Palaw: civilian houses have been burned and destroyed by regime soldiers. Fighting between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and regime troops broke out today, with several regime soldiers killed.
BANGLADESH
• Cox Bazar: a fire broke out at camp 16 of the Rohingya Refugee camp.
