Today marks the 74th anniversary of Myanmar’s independence from Britain. Although this is usually a popular day to celebrate, this year there will be no real celebration. Reality is that Burma liberated itself from Britain, but not from colonialism. Unfortunately since that day, the Tatmadaw (Burmese Army) never stopped colonizing Myanmar and its people.

POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
•  The wife and son of Dr. Aye Zan, Mon State chief minister (NLD), have been arrested by the regime. Dr. Aye Zan is currently being detained in Kyaikmaraw Township Prison
•  The KNDF in Karenni State seized weapons left abandoned by regime troops. the MNDAA (Kokang Army) in Shan State also found large deposits of weapons left abandoned by the Light Infantry Division 99 of the Tatmadaw.
•  The Department of Archeology and National Museum submitted the final proposal to nominate Arakan State’s ancient city Mrauk-U as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

CHIN STATE
•  Matupi: clashes between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers. 2 regime troops killed
•  Salai Taung Lian (23) died while fighting against regime soldiers

SAGAING
•  Tantse: two youths Maung Aung Pyae Phyo (19) and Maung Min Khant Zaw (19) were shot, arrested and beaten by regime soldiers.
•  Nyaung Pin Gyitaw, Wetlet: Maung Zaw Myo Naung and U San Naing killed during an airstrike by the military regime
•  Monywa: 8 regime soldiers killed and severa have been injured.

KACHIN STATE
•  KIO banned myanmar military owned business in Myit Kyi Nar District, including Myanmar Beer, Dagon Beer & ABC Beer.

KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
•  Ingabo: clashes between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and regime troops
•  Dwe Lo Township: airstrike by regime soldiers

MANDALAY
•  Kyaukse: Dr. Hline Zaw Nyunt (45) killed by a parcel bomb. No group claimed the attack. He was an NLD supporter and was involved in charity work.

MAGWAY
•  Yaw: Resistance fighter killed by an explosion

YANGON
•  Shwepyithar: policeman killed in a grenade attack
•  Tamwe: Hla Min Thein (45) arrested and killed during an interrogation by regime troops. The military claims he committed suicide

MON STATE
•  Kyaikto Township: more than 30 soldiers killed by Resistance fighters

THANINTHARYI
•  Palaw: clashes between Resistance fighters and Pyu Saw Htee (pro-regime armed group). 1 Resistance fighter killed

COVID DAILY (as reported by the military-controlled Ministry of Health. Real figures are believed to be higher than officially reported)
•  130 new cases and 3 new deaths (January 3rd)
