Myanmar State media announced a collaboration between the Burmese military and the Australian Border Force to fight against drug trafficking. The announcement comes a few hours after Human Rights Watch revealed that 8 Tatmadaw (Burmese military) cadets and 2 high rank regime’s officers are currently being trained in Japan at government facilities.
Meanwhile Justice For Myanmar revealed that the Burmese regime commissioned aircrafts manufactured by ATR, a joint venture between Italian Leonardo and French Airbus. The sale is against existing sanctions against the military regime, but according to Leonardo, “In compliance with national and international regulations on the export of defense technologies, it does not have any orders or supplies destined for Myanmar”. This suggest that the regime is using triangulations to by-pass the sanctions, but can Airbus and Leonardo really claim they did not know? Let’s not forget that General Min Aung Hlaing visited the Italian company Leonardo in Italy only 5 years ago.
