Fighting between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and regime troops broke out this morning in Lay Kay Kaw Myothit, near Myawaddy.
The clashes follow yesterday’s raid by the Tatmadaw in Lay Kay Kaw, an area under KNLA control, that led to the arrest of 30 anti-coup activists and politicians. Regime soldiers entered the town again today, and clashes started after peaceful negotiations between the KNLA and the regime failed. Civilian houses were shelled by the regime’s army. Other Karen ethnic armed groups joined the KNLA against the Burmese military.
At least 6 casualties have been reported on the junta’s side. Over 3.000 vIllagers reportedly fled the area

Of this 1973, only 775 are combat ready. The document may be proof that the Burmese Army is seriously over-stretched, and has much fewer soldiers than previously thought.
