Soldiers interrupting the funeral of Phone Mying Aung, a 19 year-old who was tortured to death by regime troops.

The regime’s minister of information Maung Maung Ohn, says “there is no torture of protesters” (Source: Nikkei Asia), despite plenty of evidence, including testimonies from defecting soldiers. “Only State-run media report true facts”, he claimed.

The regime is building its own narrative by spreading its propaganda, fake news and disinformation. Today during a funeral in Yangon, regime soldiers did not allow people to see the body of Phone Myint Aung, a 19 year-old who was tortured to death by them.

At the same time, State media is circulating pictures of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Zeya Thaw together, suggesting that the two might have had a secret relationship. The regime wants people to feel offended by this, but the several cases of rape and torture perpetrated by their own troops, never make it to the news.
The Burmese military keeps manipulating the information people receive, and this is a sign of weakness rather than strength.
