Double blow for Coup Leader Min Aung Hlaing. ASEAN excluded him from the China-ASEAN Summit hosted by Xi Jinping and, at the same time, ASEAN invited NUG’s Minister for the Environment, Dr. Tu Hkwang to the ASEAN’s Climate Smart and Disaster Relief International Conference. It’s the first time ASEAN acknowledges the existence of the National Unity Government (the parallel government that opposes the regime). After many months of inaction, ASEAN seem to have changed gear when dealing with the Myanmar crisis, at least on the diplomatic side. While countries like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are sympathetic with the regime, others like Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia seem to have taken the opposite stance.

Meanwhile some report that India invited Min Aung Hlaing to attend the Republic Day celebration in January 2022. That would be obviously very unfortunate, and hopefully the Indian Government will change idea. It is worth to notice that India will hold some crucial elections next year, and Modi’s U-turn on farming laws, after more than one year (and hundreds of deaths) of protests by the farmers, is a sign of his need to “clean” his public image ahead of the polls. It surely looks like a bad political move. And, obviously, engaging with a criminal would surely stain his reputation.

Another attack on the media, this time in Arakan, where journalists of Western Media, an Arakan based news outlet, went into hiding after regime soldiers started to look for their office.
