A school named after Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s mother, and a market in Bogyoke Aung San’s birthplace were burned just a few hours apart. Meanwhile dozens of empty NLD offices have been raided and destroyed all over the country, and the properties of NLD members have been seized by the regime.
The Junta may have not banned the NLD (yet), probably thanks to pressures from the Chinese government, but it is surely trying to destroy any trace of it. This obsession with the NLD (The National League for Democracy, the party that won the last elections) is hard to comprehend, as the real opposition to the regime is much wider and diverse than a single political party. It shows how out of touch the generals really are, and how their only response to the opposition is to destroy anything they can.
There have been reports about regime soldiers in western Myanmar been told that their phones will be seized in couple of days. Many soldiers are now looking for ways to defect, and it will not be easy for the regime to keep its obsessive control over its own troops.
