• UN OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), released its monthly report: 223.300 people have been displaced since February 1st.
• Justice For Myanmar published a report showing that military-owned telecom Mytel lost 24.9 million dollars in revenue and 2 millions subscribers since the coup. Its CFO U Thein Aung, was assassinated yesterday
• DVB reports the increasingly tight security checks in Ayeyarwady, especially in Pathein. Soldiers have been routinely fining civilians for absurd reasons including having dark skin or scars, walking the opposite direction on a one-way street, and, even or for not wearing shoes. Some civilians have been fined 500 kyats for wearing a face mask in public or 5.000 kyats for not carrying a smartphone, or carrying an old keyboard-phone. Since the coup, security forces have been checking smartphones looking for anti-military activities.

• As the regime is looking to continue to implement the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone and deep-sea port project, farmers in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township fear their land being confiscated by the regime with little to none compensation. According to The Irrawady, farmers have been offered as little as 1.000 USD per acre, far from the 27.000-50.000 USD farmers are asking. China holds 85% stake in the SEZ project which would give it a direct access to the Indian Ocean
• The military proxy party USDP and other military aligned parties, started a 3-day conference to discuss a possible switch to a Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system. Myanmar currently adopts a First-Past-the-Post system (FPTP), informally known as “Winner takes all” system. Under FPTP (chosen by the regime itself in 2008), the candidates who win the majority of votes are elected member of the Parliament. • Pekhone: a Karenni Army Resistance fighter killed. Clashes continue, and regime soldiers burned some civilian houses, forcing many to flee.

KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• Covid cases on the rise in Loikaw and Phruso

• Taungtwingyi: over 60 civilians abducted by the military in the last week

ARAKAN (RAKHINE) STATE
• Thandwe: 2 women and a teenager arrested and charged for sponsoring anti-military defence forces (also known as People Defence Force, PDF). Arakan State has seen very little anti-coup activities since February 1st, as the Arakan Army and the Burmese regime have agreed to an informal ceasefire last year. The Arakan Army is taking advantage of the coup to strengthen its control over the local administration, while the Burmese Army is busy fighting on other fronts.

YANGON
• Hlaing Thar Yar: 338 workers at the Gasan Apparel, a garment factory in Hlaing Thar Yar, have been on strike for 2 weeks after the ownership announced pay cuts under the minimum wage and the cut of other benefits. The ownership called regime forces. The managers of the factory are related to the army. Troops arrived with a truck. Although no worker was arrested, soldiers took pictures of them and tensions remain high. Ko Thwin Aung, chairman of the Basic Trade Union at Gasan Apparel, was sentenced to 3 years in prison under section 505a. few days go. The factory, produces for various brands, including Korean Dynamic and iMarketKorea.
