• UNICEF says that 5 million children in Myanmar are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. It also claims to be able to provide help for only 1 million children
• According to Frontier Myanmar, a ruling on Sean Turnell’s case is expected tomorrow. Mr. Turnell, who is an Australian citizen, was working as an economic advisor to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. He was arrested shortly after the coiup.
• Khit Thit Media reports that 6 Russian-made SU-30SME fighter jets, arrived in Naypyidaw in March and are currently under tight security
• The International Council on Monuments and Sites will inspect the UNESCO World Heritage Site-candidate Mrauk-U (Arakan State) in September.
• The National Unity Government foreign minister Daw Zin Mar Aung met with Ann Linde, foreign minister of Sweden
• The military regime extended the deadline for striking teachers to return to work to June 14th. Shortly after the 2021 military coup, thousands of government workers, including teachers, joined the Civil Disobedience Movement and stopped working.
• US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet urged ASEAN countries to engage with the National Unity Government
SAGAING
• Chaung-U: 8 people, including 2 Resistance fighters, have been killed by regime troops near Kangyikone village
• Myinmu: according to Myanmar Now, at least 6 civilians were killed at the Myat Saw Nyi Naung monastery in Kan Phyar village. Regime soldiers ordered a group of 30 civilians to run, and then shot them at their backs
• Kanbalu: regime soldiers raided and burned Zaw Chaung village. A civilian was injured by an artillery shell
KAREN (KAYIN) STATE
• Hpa-An: at least 60 political prisoners have been violently beaten and tortured by regime authorities
• Kyaikhtoo: the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), claims to have killed around 10 soldiers in an attack to a military convoy between Letpanpin village and Boka village
MAGWAY
• Pakkoku: Resistance fighters attacked a police station between Myitche and Kamma. Over 10 regime soldiers and 1 Resistance fighter have been reportedly killed.
• Gangaw: Resistance groups claim to have killed at least 20 regime troops in a series of drone attacks in Ye Hla Village
COVID DAILY (as reported by the military-controlled Ministry of Health. Real figures are believed to be higher than officially reported)
• 8 new cases and 0 new deaths
