• UNICEF warns that the child vaccination program in Myanmar is significantly slowing down since the coup. Conflict is one of the major factors for the decline, with hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people living in poor conditions.
• The current fuel shortages in Myanmar seem to be caused by the military junta’s new regulations on the US dollars. Businesses, including fuel importers, are forced to exchange earnings in US dollars into local currency.
• According to DVB, a leaked document shows that the military regime has banned 27 cronies from leaving the country. The list includes famous business people like Tay Za and Aung Kho Win (owner of KBZ)
• Military spokesperson Zaw Min Tun said that the Arakan Army is trying to replace the central government in Rakhine State. The remark comes after the AA accused the Burmese military of increasing tensions between the two armies
• The Chindwin news reports that the military regime hired protesters promising to pay 30,000 kyats (17 USD) to take part in a pro-military rally today. Pro-military parties are known for paying civilians (often referred to “5000 kyat people”, a reference to the amount they usually receive) to participate in rallies and demonstrations
• The peace talks proposed by the military regime will start tomorrow, with only ten ethnic groups participating. Major stakeholders like the Karen National Union (KNU), the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the Chin National Front (CNF) the All Burma Student’s Democratic Front (ABSDF) and the Arakan Army (AA) will not attend. The NUG’s armed wing, the People Defence’s Force, were not invited.
