MYANMAR NEWS: 16th MARCH 2022 (eng+ita)
Regarding yesterday’s massacre at Kalay Prison, the Burmese military claims that prisoners attempted to escape. Prison authorities shot and killed 7 unarmed prisoners, including members of the Resistance.
It’s hard to believe the military’s claims, especially after the UN denounced the Burmese Army of war crimes and crimes against humanity in its latest report on Myanmar.
According to UN human rights office, “We have really been able to identify a pattern over the past year, which indicates that this is planned, coordinated, systemic attacks; that there are clear indications that they would amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity,” and “This is the clearest yet indication of the commission of these crimes.” The Burmese military used airstrikes and heavy artillery in highly populated areas without any military target nearby.
