POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
• International Court of Justice (ICJ): the Gambia vs. Myanmar case regarding the Myanmar’s responsibility on the Rohingya genocide, resumed today.
• The European Union imposes new sanctions on additional 22 individuals and 4 entities, including the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), which is the single largest source of revenue for the military regime. The other entities are Htoo Group, IGE (International Group of Enterpreneurs), Mining Enterprise 1 (ME 1). This is the first time MOGE gets sanctioned, although the decision comes after Total Energie announced its withdrawal from Myanmar. Total will also be allowed to pay MOGE until July 2022. The military social welfare minister Thet Thet Khine and investment minister Aung Naing Oo are among the individuals included in the provision.
• Zin Mar Aung, the foreign minister of the National Unity Government (NUG, the democratic government that opposes the military regime), during a press conference reiterates the NUG’s position “to bring justice for the Rohingyas victims of the military violence”, such a contrast with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s past appearance at the Hague.
• The Czech government will alow the National Unity Government (NUG) to withdraw cash donated by pro-democracy activists through through a bonds sale. The Czech government has been one of the firsts to show solidarity and partial recognition to the NUG. On the other side the military junta struggles to access foreign funds, following several sanctions and the freezing of $1 billion held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York by the US Government.
• Pro-democracy activists plan to protest tomorrow, one year after the “22222 Strike” (22/02/2021), that saw millions of people taking to the streets. In Myanmar numerology plays a huge role, and tomorrow’s date 22.2.2022 is seen as an auspicious one. Although a mass street protest is unlikely, due to the brutality of Myanmar’s police and military, activists will find alternative ways to show their opposition to the coup.

CHIN STATE
• Matupi: according to Chin Human Rights Organization, young people in Matupi are being forced to go into hiding due to military raids targeting youths suspected of supporting or being part of the Resistance.

SAGAING
• Yinmarpyin: Resistance fighters attacked the military Sagaing’s minister convoy was attacked with landmines today. The minister was reportedly air-lifted to safety.
• Minkin: regime soldiers torched several houses in West Kule village
• Kanbalu: Myanmar Now reports on the death of an entire family at the hands of the Burmese military. During a raid, regime soldiers killed Thein Zaw’s wife, son and daughter. When he found out, instead of escaping, he ran towards the soldiers and got killed. Locals believe that the death toll of the raid could be higher than currently reported (6 deaths), as soldiers have been reportedly digging holes to hide the corpses.
• Kani: 15 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters yesterday. 1 civilian was killed and 12 houses burned in Aitaung West village.

KACHIN STATE
• Putao: third day of fighting between the Kachin Independence Army (+PDF) and regime soldiers
• Kutkai: a 29 year old man who was missing since February 16th, has been killed in unclear circumstances

SHAN STATE
• Moebye: fighting between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers continues.

KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• Demoso: Resistance fighters claim to have killed around 30 regime soldiers on Sunday. The military regime responded with airstrikes

YANGON
• Two soldiers killed by an explosion at a traffic police post in front of a City Mart.

MON STATE
• Bilin: Police Chief Kyaw Kyaw Tun died, hit in the head by a stray bullet.

COVID DAILY (as reported by the military-controlled Ministry of Health. Real figures are believed to be higher than officially reported)
• 2897 new cases and 7 new deaths
