State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (76) and President U Win Myint (70) were both sentenced to 4 years of prison by a court in Naypyidaw for breaching Covid restrictions and incitement (section 505(b) of the penal code). Shortly after the sentence, state media announced that Min Aung Hlaing cut their sentence to two years, to be served at their current location. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is currently detained in an undisclosed location in the Naypyidaw area and is facing 9 more charges. The sentence sparked another round of condemnations by the international community. Most pro-democracy activists and observers consider these trials a political motivated farce.
