While the news of the over 50 arrests in Yangon last week was devastating, let’s not forget that the Spring Revolution did achieve something in these ten months. In these 2-3 days, ASEAN excluded coup leader Min Aung Hlaing from the last two important summits. The National Unity Government raised 6-9 million dollars in just few hours by selling 2-year bonds with not interests. And after a 10 months long boycott, the regime has been forced to terminate Myanmar Brewery (producer of Myanmar Beer), citing overwhelming debt.
This is all because of the brave Resistance against the Burmese military.
POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
• The National Unity Government says it raised between 6 and 9 million USD in few hours with its Bond Sale.
• According to The Irrawady, the regime warned hoteliers against screening banned television channels at their hotels. Myanmar civilians have been forced to remove their satellite dishes in April, as the government is restricting access to anti-regime news.
• Former Mandalay Chief Minister and Vice Chairman of the National League for Democracy Zaw Myint Maun, won’t be able to testify as a defense witness at Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s trial. The regime deemed him unfit to travel. Zaw Myint Maun is being detained in Obo prison and is known to have leukemia. Yesterday the regime hit him with two more charges related to voter fraud
• The former Rakhine State chief minister Nyi Pu’s appeal to the Sittwe District court to overturn his sentence for an incitement conviction was overruled on Monday—the same day the petition was submitted. (Source: Myanmar Now)
• Myanmar State media reported that the military conglomerate MEHL filed to terminate Myanmar Brewery under Section 298(f) of Myanmar Companies Law, citing overwhelming debt. Myanmar citizens have been boycotting products related to the military, including Myanmar Beer since February.
SAGAING
• Kalay: 5 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters
• Monywa: regime soldiers raided and burned two Resistance fighters’ camps
• Monywa: Resistance fighters attacked a police station with bombs
• Naungyi Ann, Ayadaw: regime soldiers raided and looted properties in the village. They burned 2 houses
SHAN STATE
• Mine Yan, Lashio: regime soldiers opened fire against Arakan Army troops, prompting a 30 minutes long fighting. Tensions between the AA and the regime remain high, despite the diplomatic efforts by Yohei Sasakawa, the Japanese special envoy to Myanmar.
• Mangan, Muse: a 56 year-old man was tortured and killed by regime troops
KARENNI (KAYAH) STATE
• San Pya Chauk Maing, Loikaw: clashes between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers. 3 regime soldiers died.
• Loikaw: the 18 doctors and nurses from the Christ the King Cathedral and Compassion Clinic who were arrested yesterday, have been released. They had been accused of supporting the Resistance.
MAGWAY
• Saw Township: over 2.000 civilians displaced by clashes between Resistance fighters and regime soldiers
• Salin: fire at the Salin Myoma market this evening
AYEYARWADY
• Maubin: regime forces sealed off the properties of Than Hteik Aung, founder of the Pyo Khinn Thit Foundation, who is accused of supporting the Resistance movement. Than Hteik Aung has been charged under section 505b (incitement) and section 52 (counter-terrorism law) of the penal code. His whereabouts are currently unknown. Several properties of Resistance members and NLD/NUG politicians have been seized by the regime.
YANGON
• Insein: According to Chindwin News Agency, the military junta “threatens to scrap any charity-based organizations if the local organizations fail to register under the military junta’s administration”
