An article by Anrike Visser for The Diplomat, reveals how millions of USD from the International Monetary Fund, have gone missing under the military regime rule. The IMF transferred 372 million USD to Myanmar right before the coup, but it’s not clear how the current military regime used those funds. Questions about the regime’s legitimacy, also barred Myanmar from accessing $700 million worth of IMF Special Drawing Rights.

POLITICS, ECONOMY AND OTHER NEWS
•       372 million dollars transferred to Myanmar by the International Monetary Fund to fight Covid-19, have gone missing after the coup.
•       U Thein Aung, CFO (Chief Finance Officer) of telecom company Mytel, was shot dead in Mayangone (Yangon) this morning. He was a former major, and worked for many cronies. Mytel is a joint venture between the military regime and the Vietnamese government.
•       According to DVB, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing during his visit in Mandalay, revealed his plan to build a subway system in the city. This comes a few weeks after his promise to build an underground system in Naypyitaw as well.
•       The Central Bank of Myanmar has ordered that all cash payments in excess of K200 lakh (US$11,000) must be recorded, either by internet banking, bank to bank transfer, or by depositing cash to a receiver’s account. (Source: DVB)

CHIN STATE
•       Thantlang: the children and their teachers who were trapped in an orphanage while regime soldiers were burning the city, have been saved by Resistance group CDF
•       Kyin Dway, Kanpetlet: 5 regime soldiers killed by Resistance fighters.
•       Mindat: 10 regime soldiers and a Resistance fighter killed during clashes

SAGAING
•       Kale: 1 Resistance fighter was killed during yesterday’s battle between local Resistance forces and regime soldiers, in which around 50 regime soldiers have been killed in several landmine attacks
•       Monywa: local pro-military administrator Tin Win Zaw killed
•       Shwebo: 4 houses owned by a local administrator’s family, have been looted and burned by a new pro-military administrator and Pyu Saw Htee (pro-regime armed group) members

KACHIN STATE

•      Religious leaders meet with Regime authoritiesin Naypyitaw to discuss the return of internal displaced people

SHAN STATE
•       Kyaukme: Hundreds of civilians displaced by clashes between RCSS / SSA and forces from both the SSPP/SSA and the TNLA

MANDALAY
•       A police sergeant killed by a Resistance group at the Maha Aung Myay’s jade market

MAGWAY
•       Htilin: Resistance group Yaw Defence Force has seized 16 tons of illegal timber. Timber is one of the many sources of revenue for the regime, and it has been sanctioned by many democratic countries
•       Natmauk and Myothit: several local administrators resigned

ARAKAN (RAKHINE) STATE
•       Thandwe: the Navy is extorting fishermen in the area who want to work, the equivalent of 5-10 USD
•       Kyauk Yan Thazi, Rathedaung: several explosions from a nearby military base, prompted civilians to flee and hide in bunkers for fear of new clashes between regime soldiers and the Arakan Army. According to the regime, some shells exploded when a building accidentally caught fire in the military base.
•       The Arakan State Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the bulk purchase of 40,491 visses of palm oil from Myanmar Economic Corporation, a military regime-controlled conglomerate to curb rising palm oil prices. The oil will be sold to the public with a profit margin of 2%.

COVID DAILY (real numbers are believed to be much higher than officially reported)
•       1002 new cases and 22 new deaths
