Min Aung Hlaing announced that the regime pardon over 5,000 civilians who were (unlawfully) arrested for being anti-regime. While amnesties under code 401 are pretty common, especially before certain events (celebrations or a visit by important foreign diplomats), this one is clearly linked to ASEAN’s exclusion of Min Aung Hlaing from the next summit
Meanwhile the Resistance hits Naypyitaw once again.

• Interesting article by Bertil Lintner, on the Tatmadaw and its struggle to adapt to the current situation, with many open fronts and new opponents like PDF and Urban guerillas. “The Tatmadaw will be stretched thin on many battlefronts at a time when the morale of its troops is already low.”. He also reports rumors of Tatmadaw units in Karen State refusing to fight and reporting to generals in Naypyitaw battles that never took place. https://www.irrawaddy.com/opinion/guest-column/myanmar-military-struggles-to-adapt-to-new-kind-of-conflict.html?fbclid=IwAR1lXe6wV7FdbIGSeyHVk8A5Ck102uHD_t8PXPF_QAtz6phwG8tYygY7MIo
• 4,320 prisoners who were arrested for protesting the coup, and 1,316 who were already convicted are going to be released by the military regime during the Thandigyut celebrations. They will be required to sign a document that states that they will not commit any crime against the country. According to AAPP Burma, over 9,000 people have been arrested and unlawfully detained and tortured since February. 131 have been tortured to death. The announcement, given by Min Aung Hlaing on national TV, comes after ASEAN’s refuse to invite general Min Aung Hlaing to the next summit at the end of the month.
• Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing held a speech to the nation. He claims that the ASEAN special envoy to Myanmar made multiple requests that were “impossible to accomodate”. He complained about the international community focusing on the Tatmadaw’s violence, ignoring the violence of its opposition. He wishes that ASEAN reconsiders its decision to exclude him from the next summit.
